They both laughed at Peggy's description. "That sounds about right. My parents, on the other hand, both arrived independently at the same name for me. I had two certificates for a few months, exactly identical."
Peggy's response was interrupted by a call from the bus, "Peggy!"
She ran over quickly, then waved Liz over, "Phone's for you!"
Liz sighed, then went to join her hostess, "Who is it?"
The intern replied, "A Dr. Wildman. He said if you weren't here, he wanted to leave a message, but I'd never heard of you, so I was gonna go in and ask…" Peggy held up her hand to forestall him, then shooed him back onboard, and gestured for Liz to precede her.
Up in World Watch One, the intern flipped a switch, turning on the speaker phone, "You can talk now."
"Boss?"
"Rocky?" A voice, whose owner Peggy could only hope was as beautiful, deep and cultured, came out of the console.
"Yeah."
"How are things going?"
"These guys are interesting. Kind of like us, only more so." She glanced at Peggy, "More diverse and numerous, too. How're things on your end?"
A different voice came on, a tenor, "We found you. You're in Greece. With Ner."
"Hey, Tom! I should take this opportunity to point out you're on a speaker."
"Oh, well, um…"
"'s ok, they already think I'm crazy, or scamming, or both." She shrugged at Peggy, who smiled back.
The tenor, Tom, tried a few times to say something, and was finally replaced by the bass, probably Wildman, "Speaker phone?"
"Yeah, but not you apparently."
"Correct. All is typical, to our knowledge. Your parents are where you left them, and Ham has found his network intact. These Cavaliers might be part of that network, too, if that's helpful."
Liz, aka Rocky, took a moment to digest this, "That could be cool, if I'm reading your inuendo right. I'll check it with Ham later. Do you all have an ETA for the States?"
"Our high road will put us in New York tomorrow afternoon."
"Ok, I'll see you eventually, as usual. Oh, and tell Bob that I still want what we were in Rome after!"
"Rome?"
Liz rolled her eyes and shook her head in disbelief, "never mind. Bye!"
"Sayonara."
The call cut to dial tone, and the intern hung up. Peggy frowned at Liz, beginning to suspect that this enigmatic young woman was not just pulling their chains after all.
the next chapter should be along eventually...
