Crafty Hobbies

theUnicorn is quite fond of things crafty, which might be a little odd for a computer geek, but it all makes sense in the end. She eschews those crafts which need skill in actual artistry, and cleaves unto those which are rigid, yet leave room for creativity.

For example, the Celtic Knots she makes are very linear, very precise, and can be designed with pencil and graph paper, which fits in well with the software engineer side of her nature, yet the Knots provide an infinite variety of patterns, and require design talent to make them look pleasing to the eye. This meshes with the creative, gamer type.

Tatting

Tatting. Lost Art? Not in Ithaca! We have lots and lots of tatting here! But wait, you don't know what tatting is? No problem! You have come to the right place.

Tatting is the art of making knots into lace. Well, no that's more like the description of Macramé. Tatting is a sequence of the same knot, over and over again, that makes lace. I have examples here. Those who dare investigate further should visit this amazing instructions site! (way better than i could have done...) but, despite that, i might yet decide to put up instructions or animations... stay tuned knot-heads!
